Welcome to Week Two of the How to Breathe Immersion!
I hope you are settling into the program well. It has been a pleasure to get to know some of you in our group thread from last week. If you haven’t had a moment to introduce yourself over there yet, please do. The thread will remain open until the end of the immersion.
To integrate the Orienting practice from Week One I suggest trying it at different moments throughout this week as well. Orienting can also be helpful in the beginning of this week’s Grounding session. Try noticing and naming a few things in your surroundings before beginning our new practice.
A couple of quick notes before we continue—
A reminder to save the date for our live group session on July 24, 2024 @ 9-9:45am PST (Zoom link will be sent out in the coming weeks)
If you are interested in having an accountability buddy for this immersion, please use the thread this week to share that you are looking for someone
Breathwork Practice: Grounding
This week we are going to practice Grounding from pages 83-85 of How to Breathe.
Grounding is foundational. We cannot heal and thrive in our bodies if we don’t practice inhabiting them. Many of us have experiences that have made our bodies feel unsafe, taking us far away from the present moment. The Grounding practice is an invitation to begin coming home to our bodies.
With practice, the Grounding Breath offers a pathway to stay present through many of our most joyous and challenging experiences. It also helps bring our attention to when we checkout, numb, want to fight, or runway. This practice offers gentle encouragement to reconnect to our breath and body, anchoring ourselves in the here and now.
The Grounding session is an effective practice for connecting to the earth and encouraging your system to down-regulate. It ca also be a supportive practice if you get frequent headaches.
