Two years ago, Nic and I started on the journey of becoming foster parents. He wanted to eventually foster to adopt another child and I was on the fence for a while. There is so much stigma in our country regarding foster children and foster care in general. I had tons of concerns, some valid, and some based in fear from the stories I heard about foster care throughout my life and on television. There was a part of me that did not believe we would get a placement that would lead to adoption as foster-to-adopt cases are extremely rare in our county. I also had a great deal of fear of the pain of fostering a child and then having them leave our care. I heard too many stories of foster care kids being reunified with birth parents or in kinship situations that were less than ideal. I was convinced I couldn’t handle that amount of hea…
